Here's an interesting quote:  Overheard:  "Next time you're in your car, at 50 miles per hour [80 kph], strip down to your underwear and jump out. That's what it's like to crash in a professional bike race." -- Jonathan Vaughters, former pro and current Team Garmin director.

I thought about how much it would suck to crash last night during the Bike Masters Wed night group ride.  We weren't going 50 mph, but at mid 20s, sliding along the pavement or rolling over each other with bikes in the mix isn't exactly enticing.  I wasn't really worried since the people I was riding with were solid riders, but every now and then when a weird gust happens, or a really bad hole in the pavement gets someone up front, you have visions of everyone going down and not being able to avoid getting caught up in it.  Unfortunately, this is one hurdle I'll have to cross if I decide to get back into racing.  And that's a fairly significant hurdle.

Anyway, the group ride was fun and furious.  Huge group showed up for the first annual "Return of Marco Vasquez" ride.  He was just visiting, but apparently he was quite welcome as about 30 people showed up to the ride.  Of course, the ride split up eventually, but it was still fun.  The really fast guys took off on a hill and Bryan and I tried to bridge up, but it was all for naught.  We kept it steady and picked up about 8 other riders to form a solid group.  Bob used the momentum of his 26lb bike after a big dip to punch it up a hill.  And dropped I was.  My legs just gave out.  Last weeks Trek Store ride showed my lungs' weakness, this time it was my legs.  After a while in no man's land (it was actually quite enjoyable to be pushing along at 22-ish mph) the fast guys who went further than us at our turn around, caught me and I hopped on.  I stayed with them surprisingly well, but I think they were at the end of their beating up on each other stint.

So that's my ride report.

Onto part 3...

Shabbos ride!!!  Any plans?  I know Sean's going to be in town and wanting to ride.  I also know Mr. Miles would like to do a mtb ride (probably on Saturday since Sunday will likely be rainy?), and I also know Jon Randell wants to do a 7-ish am Saturday road ride for base miles (3-4 hrs).

So what does everyone think about a ride?  Would there be a large enough group to start at Crane at 7am on Saturday?  Sean, do you need to borrow my bike?  Mr. Miles, are you fine with doing road or mtb?  Is this thing on??  Check 1, 2?

Fun times last night. I almost popped when I punched it up that hill. Close call.

I'd love to ride this weekend, but we are leaving for kearney an Saturday morning.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Ok, so far we got one vote to have fun, and another vote to ride in the afternoons.

Need other peeps to weigh in so ballots can be tallied.

I'm going to go early with JP on Saturday for about 2 hours. It's not going to be fun, because Saturday is hard ride day for me. And I think JP has a specific workout to do. Anyway, I need to be back at my house by about 8:45 so I can pick up my bag and head to work.

Sunday, I'm going to ride in the morning. There's a baseball game at Rosenblatt on Sunday afternoon that I'll be attending.

I'm up in the air, sickness has fully set in in the Miles house. I'll post tomorrow what's going on but if I feel crappy the base mile jaunt will be all I'm up for. Base miles mean base right Mr. Randall?

Sunday's gotta be early, my mom's arriving Sunday afternoon so I'll have to fetch her from the airport.

Just a forwarning. I might be a no-go this weekend. I can't tell, but I might have an ear infection. All I know is I got some weird imbalance issues going on. Started when I went to bed last night and the room started to spin when I laid down. (Insert beer/drug jokes here)

So any thoughts on tomorrow anyone? I'm feeling better but not good enough for a suffer-fest. Base mile pace sounds like the ticket.

I'm hoping to feel better for a Saturday morning ride. I'll post tonight on my final decision. Sorry to be last minute, but I really want to ride, but just not feeling like I can yet.

No problem Mike.

If anyone is up for a sunrise ride, let me know. I MIGHT ride from 5:30 till 8:30 if I can get my butt out of bed early enough. I have to be done by 8:30. It's either super early, or no riding till Monday.

If your interested, give me a call at 573 and then 805 and then a 1.

5:30 is a little early for me. Sorry Bob. How does 7am at the coffee place sound? I have a chimney guy coming over at 11am so I am going to have to stick to a 3 hour ride (base miles).

Munson, if you’re worried about falling down just put on some training wheels tonight and show up tomorrow morning.... Oh, and don't forget your baseball card in the spokes.

Well I am unavailable till 10 or so. This is one of those horrific work weekends for me and I'll be working furiously till then to get things straight. Anybody's up for riding at a moderate pace after that.

Well, Looks like most of the group is either sick or has some plans. I think I am going to cancel my 7am coffee ride. I'll just get in some hours on my own when I can tomorrow. I'm completely open for Sunday, Wife will be at work all day.

I'll keep an eye on the posts. Happy easter erbody...

We are doing a ride from Kohl's (72nd and Pacific) at 10am on Sat. Ian Gray and Jared Berger are coming up from Lincoln for it. Everyone is welcome, it more then likely will be quite fast.

There is a couple of us riding through Ashland to 66 and back East to Plattsmouth. Looking at 3-4 hours leaving from 163rd and Harrison around 12:45. Decent pace but not supper hard. Call or text 305-9064 if you want to hook up. Jonny, that means you. I'm a mile or so from your place.

Have fun with Ian and Jared. Ouch!
