Ugh...I hab a code...

It's not that bad, but I'm definitely not riding much anytime soon. Which is great timing considering a 3-day weekend is on deck. I'm on call Saturday morning so that will give me some lounge around the house time. But Sunday and Monday would be nice to put in some miles. We'll see how I feel. If this cold goes like others I've had recently, I'll be in bed for a few days.

Bob had mentioned that, for Saturday, he would like to start an early AM, like 5:30 or 6, ride that would loop somewhere, then meet up with the Bike Masters group ride. Then Bryan started to give me instructions for a ride he was doing, but I cut him short by saying I was on call. So, sorry guys. I would love to be a part of some great rides this weekend, but it looks like I'll be in bed most of the time. Hope you guys have fun!

The plans (well, my plans)

Shabbos (Munson-free): Leave Bike Masters at 6:30 (a.m.) and head to Glenwood. I'm aiming for a pretty quick pace once we get across the bridge and into the good land. It'll be 80 or 85 miles from Bike Masters.

Shabbos +1: Crane Coffee (78th/Cass) at 6:30 a.m. for some gentle cruising and cavorting around the greater Omaha area. We'll probably be done by 10, or whenever Munson passes out.

Shabbos +2: TBD, though I'm up for 3 hours or so, as long as I'm done by 10.

Oh -- and I'm passing on the Bike Masters ride. That's a group I just don't want to deal with much more this year.

Hmm... tempting, but I'll be riding my new Surly Long Haul Trucker. The 80+ miles sounds good, the quick pace (your quick, my barf on the side of the road pace) scares me a bit ;-).

How about I meet you at BM at 6:30, then ride with you till 7:20. Then I can just turn around and head back to BM to ride with the rest of Team Green. I'm trying to get 100+ in for the day so my maiden voyage on my new bike is something to remember.

I know the BM group is frustrating if your wanting to ride a bit more aggressive on Saturday. However, when you just want to relax and enjoy riding and chatting with friends, it's a great ride.

I may also join you for Shabbos+1 but I'll have to bail out early enough to be home by 9:00.

Shabbos +2, I'm up for an early ride that day as well. We are going to the State Fair that afternoon, so I'll need to be done by 10:00'ish as well.

bob -- your plan sounds fine with me. We'll be downtown by 7:20 for sure. My frustration with the Saturday ride has nothing to do with pace. If I want to go fast, I'm not going to worry about that. If people keep up, fine. If not, fine. It's the general lawlessness and lack of thought by the group in general. (though there are riders, like yourself, who are exempt from that.)

I know that's a harsh, biting generalization, but it's unfortunately true. I've aired my concerns to those who need to know, but I'm going to skip it for a while anyway.

We'll see about Sunday. I'm in hardcore rest mode now, so hopefully I'll be able to get out of bed at 5:30am on Sunday.

Total miles for the Surly Long Haul Truckers maiden voyage = 101. Sweet!

I'll see you at crane coffee at 6:30 tomorrow. I'm a bit wiped so a easier pace would be appreciated.

I'm also game for a 6:30 to 10:00 ride on Monday.

FYI... Jon P took some of the BM novice riders (me include) under the wing today and showed us some of the finer points of pace lines and rotation. I think some of you pros should step up and do some instructing (as needed/wanted) on Saturday's to keep the group informed.

Since it's a club ride, most of the riders have never raced and rotation, pace lines, signaling, communication in general are all concepts they have never been taught. I've been riding with BM for 3 years now, and I have never had any explain this stuff to me. I've had to pick it up from watching.

Just my $0.02.

so the ride is missing "el patron" from experience most racers are not friendly and unwilling to help because in the end you might enjoy riding enough to get in shape and beat them. So to leave you dazed and confused is the result. In a smaller group you would get some advice.

Any plans for Shabbos +2?

Shabbos +2: I'm probably just going to spin around the NW part of town with Jack in the trailer. I don't see myself being gone too long -- I'm tired. 7 hours on the bike for Saturday and Sunday will do it.
