Comfort on bike = speed.

Today's ride was a top 10.  Even though it was a bit windy with a 15-ish frigid breath from the Great North, the sun was out, and I got a 3 hour ride in with some great friends.

I had forgotten how comfortable fancy new fabrics can make you feel.  This whole winter I've been wearing wool since it keeps you really warm and doesn't stink after a single ride.  Today I went back to my racing days and donned a Craft long sleeve base layer (warm and dries in seconds even when sweating), a jersey, a vest, arm warmers, shorts, leg warmers, booties over shoes, and mid weight gloves.  We worked hard into the wind, so I stayed warm that way, then after turning around, I could easily unzip some layers to let my layers dry out quickly.

All this along with the fact that I was riding with Brady, Joe, Mr. Miles, and Jonny Randell, made for a stellar ride.  And I was feeling my coffee and cream of wheat.  I hit it hard when I could and sat in when I needed.  But overall, I finished the ride kinda tired, but feeling great.  Now if I would just keep doing rides consistently, I would get fitter faster.  Oh well, warmer weather is coming (maybe in a couple weeks??) and more group rides will be had.  It's all gravy.

Oh yeah, tomorrow - Shabbos +1.  Not sure yet.  A call is in to Bryan, but I've heard that he caught the sickness his son has.  So his input for the ride may be out.  Mr. Miles and I (and maybe Joe and Jonny?) are still planning at 12:30 or 1pm for a 3-ish hour easy spin.   Keep checking back, kiddies for official time and place.

It's 9pm, no word from Bryan. He must be quite sick.

I'm gonna say 12:30pm at Crane again.

I'm also up for other suggestions, but I figure we could head South on the trail into the wind, hop off if needed and tool around somewhere. Being this is an easy pace ride, we may just stick to various trails - head out on Big Papio to that Willow Creek (?) lake. Or whatever the group wants to do.

Please post in response if other choices sound better. Like I said, I'm up for whatever.

I'm out. Sorry.

I spent the morning and a good chunk of the afternoon throwing up.

My total caloric intake included two glasses of Gatorade, a small one of Coke, a grilled cheese sandwich and about half a bowl of soup. Well, that's the stuff that stayed down, at least.

My official vote is 12:30, but could be easily convinced that 1 is better.

Actually I revise my vote to 1 PM. Sounds like we've got errands to run

I agree that was a top ten ride. But it could have been warmer. And less wind. And more people. And more miles. Other than that, a top ten.

Have a good ride today. Looking forward to next time

Basketball is done. I can come out and ride. 1 is good for me. Whatever. Bryan I was sick yesterday but it was Wild Turkey induced. My bro was up from MO for a race in Lincoln.

Alrighty, 1pm at Crane unless anyone else has a suggestion for a meeting place. Aksarben is fine too, it's just missing the coffee. Or we could meet at L'Vente Cafe, the site of where the original Shabbos ride started from when it was a Carribou coffee. It's not that much different geographically. L'Vente is at 71st and Pacific. Just to the East of Q'doba. Funky names spot, I guess.

So, Crane or L'Vente?

Oh, and Bryan, I hope you get to feeling better soon. Those stomach bugs are the worst!

Crane. I will probably ride up so if we go south I will be close to the house.

Mike,
I'm planning on Crane... if it changes can you post something or give me a ring?

Hey Mike... I can be there at 1:00pm with "Blue" my trusty trek.

1pm at Crane just for last minutes sake!

Ah, I envy you guys. Sounds like fun. Especially a ride today since it's nicer out.

Our family was busy with prom stuff all day yesterday, worrying about post-prom stuff all night, and house work and stuff all day today.

The best I did was a one miler round trip to the Bag-N-Save for a messenger bag full of groceries.

A day with a short trip by bike is still better than no trip by bike.

Hee hee. I just sent you an email about this very thing, Joe. You might want to delete your post though so the spam bots don't get you.

I kinda figured that was your plan when I saw those guys pass. Did you get all your time in? It sure was a great day.

Scott, any day is a great day for a ride. Even if it's just down to the corner and back, propelling yourself on a bike takes you back to being a kid everytime.

Almost, my wife was able to lure me home with dinner. I rode for about 4:00hrs.
