Didn't have to twist my arm much.

Originally, my big bro and I were planning on meeting at the parents house after work to wrap presents and have a family dinner.  Well then the snow happened.  I was back and forth about whether I wanted to ride home at 3:30pm then drive to the parents house.  Well both my dad and my brother convinced me to catch a ride home with my dad in his truck and wait to do the family thing another (safer travel) night.

On the ride, watching how some people drove confirmed that it was probably a wise decision.  Every year, we all have to re-learn how to drive in the snow.  Some remember better/faster than others.  If you were brave enough to face the crazy drivers out there for the trip home by bike, then you have earned my respect and admirition.  I'd like to be that fearless some day.

Wise decision, Munson. I rode in this morning when it was just coming from the sky and blowing around. In the afternoon, I decided to catch a bus and rode the last 1/2 mile to my house, trying out my studded tires.

From the bus, I saw lots of poor driving. Still thinking about tomorrow.

I'm giving everyone one more day to re-learn how to drive carefully. So I took the bus today. One more day will also allow more places to be plowed and more salt on the ground. We'll see what Thursday is like.

Oh, by the way , how did the studded tires work? Or are you writing a review on your blog?

Hey Munson - I rode in today as the first real test of my new studded snow tires (Nokian Mount and Ground), and I have to say I was very impressed. Only one fall in 12 miles... and it was when I was walking the bike!

Hmm.. I'm sensing a pattern here. If my commute tomorrow is too slippery, maybe I shall invest in some spikey tires.

I too skipped the commute by bike this morning. Chickened out by the amount of residual snow on main streets & packed snow on side routes. And tomorrow calls for an ice storm. Friday? Maybe this past Monday's "Feels like -30F" and dry streets would have been the best choice after all.

I don't give cars any slack when it comes to stupidity.
And i see quite a bit of it.
Yesterday was pretty good conditons (not a whole lot of wind),I commuted in the morning to UNO, then delivered that night.

I did ride this morning (Wednesday), and it was awesome. The studs work superbly, at least on the packed streets. I had zero traction issues. I will probably write about it on my blog later.

Speaking of stupid, downtown this morning on Harney, I had an SUV idiot pass me, on the right, through an unplowed parking lane, with parked cars in it. "Didn't you have to pass a test to get a license to drive that thing?"

EB... it's not if YOU cut the cars any slack, it's if the CARS cut YOU some slack. When it's slick, they don't always know how to pass safely. Just be careful when biking in traffic on the first few snow days of the year.

I however, did bump up against my bike when I was getting in the car this morning. Does that count?

So sad. My Surly is lonely.
